Hi, I'm Jess

I created Human by Practice because I believe work should give energy, offer real community, and be a source of pride. Human by Practice is a UK-based consultancy providing leadership, inclusion, and culture training and support.

My work sits at the intersection of diversity and inclusion, workplace culture, and employee engagement, focusing on what actually changes behaviour day to day.

I help organisations and teams across the UK with:

Why this work matters to me

I’m passionate about learning, inclusion and strategy, especially where they overlap - the spaces where cultural change becomes tangible, measurable, and lived. As someone who is neurodivergent and LGBTQ+, I know what it feels like to navigate workplaces that weren’t designed with everyone in mind. I carry my lived experiences and years of expertise, along with the insights of my peers and collaborators, into how I design, facilitate and support leaders and organisations.

I began this journey after more than a decade working in learning and culture transformation. I saw too many organisations trying to “fix culture” with statements and policies, but ignoring everyday behaviour, human relationships, and systemic design. I realised that real, lasting change needs a different approach. With storytelling, data, and creative learning, I help organisations see themselves clearly and move forward with intention.

What makes my approach different

My approach is grounded in behavioural insight, lived experience, creative methods and human connection. These four strands shape how I support leaders, teams and organisations across all areas of my work.

Behavioural Insight

Grounded in deep listening, behavioural insight and real conversation, helping people shift patterns and strengthen relationships.

Lived Experience

My work is rooted in a deep appreciation and respect for lived experience. My approach is trauma-informed and  psychologically safe.

Creative Methods

I use scenarios, games, thought experiments, and creative approaches to help people unlock different ways of thinking and build practical confidence.

Human Connection

I focus on trust, belonging, and empathy as critical for creating positive, supportive cultures where people thrive.

Five pillars that shape my work

Every programme, workshop or partnership sits on five core pillars. They guide how I listen, design, challenge, coach and support organisations through change.

  • Clarity: Understanding lived experience, pressure points, and system dynamics.
  • Behaviour: Shifting everyday habits, communication, and leadership practice.
  • Humanity: Warmth, curiosity, emotional intelligence, and psychological safety.
  • Creativity: Games, storytelling, experimentation, and reflective tools.
  • Continuity: Measurable progress and behaviour embedded over time.
The Human by Practice Approach: 1) Clarity, 2) Behaviour, 3) Humanity, 4) Creativity, 5) Continuity

That diversity of context shapes my approach: adaptable, grounded, and aware that no two organisations are the same.
